(Hartley)– The funeral for a northwest Iowa soldier killed last week in Afghanistan will be held Friday in his hometown of Hartley.
Army Staff Sergeant Shane Koele died March 16th from injuries suffered a day earlier when a land mine exploded near his humvee. He was assigned to the 212th Military Police Company, based in Germany. Koele died about a week after he arrived for duty in Afghanistan.
Koele’s funeral will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School. He graduated in 1998. A military burial will follow at Pleasantville Cemetery in Hartley.
