(Spencer)– Flagfest is coming up this weekend in Spencer. Blake Goss of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce says the fun begins Friday…
“The Tail Twisters will be having their golf tournament at the Spencer Golf and Country Club, and then we’ll have a brief rocket slide dedication at 5:30 followed by Food Truck Friday and live music by Casey Musekman at Riverview Park, and then we’ll move over to North School Park where the kids will have a pedal pull. Registration is at 7:00, the pull starts at 7:30. That’s for ages 4-12. And then we’ll wrap up that evening with Movie In The Park featuring Light Year”.
Saturday’s events include the Spencer Main Street 5K walk or run…
“You can register on their website. They will start at Spencer Hospital. There will also be a bike ride offered. You can meet up at the Clay County Fair, on the north side there, there’s a sign put on the fence where to meet up at, so if you want to get a quick little exercise in before getting your spot for the best parade in northwest Iowa, that’s the time to do it. Once the parade wraps up then we’ll move over the Fairview Park and we’ll have inflatables; Imagination Library; a couple of food vendors as well. We’ll be there from 1:00 to 4:00. Plenty of shade, plenty of parking. It’s a great place to have that located at. And then that evening we’ll have the Grand Cruise and the Christian Motorcycles down here on Grand Avenue as well. That’s always quite the sight to see.”
That will be followed by The Chill and Street Dance. Goss says the fun continues Sunday on the water…
“If you’d like to do a river float you can dock in at Stolley Park and wrap it up at West Leech, you’ll be on your own for that. And then we’ll have a homemade cardboard boat race and that’s starting to gain some traction. It was a real big hit in 2021. We had probably a half dozen of participants in 2022. We’re starting to get some interest in it for this year, something I definitely want to continue to grow. You’re only allowed duct tape and cardboard, and it’s for all ages. You build a boat and try to see if it floats.”
Other events Sunday include an open house at the Parker Museum; a free family swim from Noon until 7:00 pm at the Spencer Aquatic Center; and a performance by the Spencer Municipal Band at 2:00 pm.
