First West Nile Case Of Season Reported In NW Ia. Boy

(Des Moines)– A young boy from northwest Iowa is the state’s first person to become ill from the West Nile Virus this year.

State health officials say the boy is doing well and recovering at home.

No other information about the child, such as his age or hometown, is being released.

Last year, 23 Iowans were diagnosed with West Nile. Two people died.

West Nile is transmitted to people through a bite from an infected mosquito.
