(Spirit Lake)– A barn on a farm site on the south side of Spirit Lake was destroyed by fire early this (Sat.) morning.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 2412 Lincoln Avenue, which is southwest of the Fareway Store and Spirit Lake Public Works Building, around 2:50 this (Sat.) morning. Upon arriving Kollasch says firefighters found the barn totally engulfed and a couple of other nearby outbuildings on fire. He says they were able to put those out quickly, but the barn and it’s contents was destroyed.
The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department was called for assistance.
The blaze was discovered by a Dickinson County Sheriff’s Deputy while on routine patrol.
Kollasch says the cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
Kollasch says firefighters were assisted on the scene by Hawn Brothers, Excavating which used a piece of equipment to help pull debris apart so firefighters could put it out.
A tractor, two riding lawn mowers and some other equipment that was in the barn were also destroyed.
Kollasch says no one was living in a house on the farm site, which he says is owned by someone from Estherville.
The house wasn’t damaged at all.
