Fire Ravages Spencer Salvage Business

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A major fire caused extensive damage to a Spencer salvage business late Friday and early Saturday.

The Spencer Fire Department was called to Vanderhaag Salvage around 8:30 p.m. Friday and found the blaze burning out of control in an office area.

Fire departments from Everly, Dickens, Fostoria and Milford were called for mutual aid. Milford Fire Chief Don Eckard estimates his department alone transported more than 40-thousand gallons of water to the scene. Milford firefighters remained on the scene until about 4:30 this morning. Others were there beyond that.

Officials say the blaze destroyed a business office and warehouse area. The cause is under investigation.
