(Milford)– A fire in a compost pile resulted in a cloud of smoke that shrouded most of Milford for awhile Thursday.
Fire Chief Don Eckard says crews had burned a pile of brush in a gravel pit just southwest of the high school earlier in the week. Thursday’s high wind re-kindled the fire. Some cinders were blown onto a nearby compost pile, starting it on fire. Eckard says the pile was very slow to burn and was difficult to put out.
Firefighters battled it about three hours.
