(Spirit Lake)– A lakes area marina was heavily damaged by fire Monday night.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to Moeller Marine on the northwest side of Big Spirit Lake around 7:30 p.m. Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says a portion of the building was already engulfed when firefighters arrived. He says the parts area, candle making area and a showroom sustained extremely heavy damage.
Jorgenson says David Schipper of the State Fire Marshall’s office has determined the cause was some sort of an electrical problem in a pot used to melt wax for candles. From there, Jorgenson says it appeared the fire spread very quickly.
No injuries were reported.
Several boats in the showroom area were heavily damaged. Jorgenson says they were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the north end of the building where even more boats are stored.
A dollar amount on the damage wasn’t immediately available.
Spirit Lake firefighters had to battle icy roads and snow and blowing snow.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 11:00 p.m.
