(Wallingford)– Fire destroyed a barn last (Thurs.) evening near Wallingford.
Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says his department was called to the scene two miles west of Wallingford on Emmet County Road A-34 around 10:00 p.m. Upon arriving, Fischer says firefighters found the barn fully engulfed and had already burned half-way down to the ground.
Upon investigating, Fischer says they learned it was a controlled burn that had been going on for a short time when a passerby spotted it and called authorities.
15 firefighters responded to the blaze, along with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office.
Fischer reminds anyone planning to do an open burn to contact your local Sheriff’s Office or the fire department that serves your area.
