(Spencer)– Spencer fire crews battled a blaze Friday in an apartment above a downtown law office.
Fire Chief Doug Duncan says firefighters were called to 13 West Fourth Street around 10:30 a.m. on a report of smoke. Upon arriving he says heavy smoke could be seen from the outside. The fire was quickly extinguished, and it was determined no one was in the apartment.
Duncan says it appears the fire was caused by a defective fan.
Duncan says most of the fire damage was contained to the third floor apartment, but there was some smoke damage to the law office, an apartment below, and some neighboring apartments above the Hen House.
The fire resulted in traffic being blocked off on West Fourth Street between First Avenue West and Grand Avenue for about an hour.
No injuries were reported.
