Federal Assistance Available To Assist Layed Off Workers At Two Local Plants

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Some federal assistance is on the way to assist nearly 100 workers affected by layoffs at Skyjack, Incorporated in Emmetsburg and Freudenberg NOK in Spencer. Freudenberg began laying off workers in January of this year, with additional rounds expected to continue through October. Skyjack laid off workers between August 1st, 2008 and December 1st, 2009.

Officials say $737,608 is coming to Iowa Workforce Development to assist the displaced workers. The funds will be used to assist workers while they receive training or other employment-related services by providing supportive services such as dependent care and transportation assistance.

The grant will be administered by the Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission.

The funding comes from the Department of Labor’s National Emergency Grant Program.
