(Spirit Lake)– Clay and Dickinson counties have been selected as one of six pilot project sites in Iowa to improve community response to domestic abuse and child maltreatment.
Cyndee Dather of the Lakes Area Empowerment and Decategorization Board says the designation was awarded through a competitive grant process throught the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Dather says the purpose of the project is to increase the safety of Iowa’s women and children by establishing “Family Violence Response Teams”. She says those teams will be made up of law enforcement, county attorneys, D-H-S representatives, Victim Witness Coordinators, representatives from CAASA and others officials from both Clay and Dickinson counties.
Dather says the grant money will be used to train those officials, who will promote community awareness programs.
