E’Ville Woman Announces Candidacy For State Representative

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– An Estherville woman announced Tuesday she’s running as a Republican for State Representative in House District Seven, which encompasses Emmet and Palo Alto counties and northern Kossuth county.

Karen Butler is President of the Estherville-Lincoln Central School Board. She said that’s partially what led to her interest in running for State Representative.

Butler says increasing funding for education would be her top priority if elected, along with fostering economic development in small towns and bolstering the ag economy.

Butler, now retired, taught vocal music at Forest Ridge Youth Services. Prior to teaching, she traveled the United States and other countries as a back-up singer.

Butler is a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville. She was a member of the NIFB and is a researcher and fundraiser for the Regional Wellness Center.

Butler and her husband Jim have two daughters and one grandson.
