E’Ville Voters Approve Lodging Tax

(Estherville)– Voters in Estherville have approved a lodging tax for the community.

282 people voted in favor in Tuesday’s special election; 46 were against.

Turnout was extremely light. There are 4,629 registered voters in the city.

The seven percent tax will take effect July 1st, 2005.

Proceeds will be split 50/50 between the Chamber of Commerce and city of Estherville. The chamber will use its portion primarily for marketing; the city will use its portion for various tourism-related purposes such as improving park and rec facilities.
