E’Ville Residence Damaged By Fire

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Estherville firefighters spent over an hour Wednesday evening battling a house fire.

Firefighters were called to 603 Third Avenue North just after 5:30 p.m. The home is owned by John Lester of Estherville and is rented by Melissa Anderson and her four children.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the home. After entering it, they found the fire in a second floor bedroom. They were able to quickly extinguish it.

The Iowa State Fire Marshall determined the fire was started when a desk lamp tipped over in some children’s books and papers.

Heavy smoke damage was reported to the second floor of the home. Moderate fire damage was reported to the upstairs. Damage estimates could range from five to eight thousand dollars.

Estherville firefighters were on the scene over an hour and-a-half Wednesday evening.
