E’Ville Council To Consider Lodging Tax Proposal

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– The Estherville city council Monday (2/21) will consider whether or not to hold a special election on a proposed Lodging Tax and how revenue from such a tax would be spent.

Dusty Heland, Director of the Estherville Chamber of Commerce, says a committee of that organization has been looking into the matter. She says a recent poll of chamber members showed overwhelming support for a Lodging Tax, but she says the chamber itself hasn’t taken an official stance on the issue.

Heland says revenue from the tax could be used for several things such as marketing Estherville as a tourist destination; to improve the city’s gateway areas; and to purchase new Christmas decorations, among other things.
