E’Ville Council Discusses Highway Four Parking

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– City officials in Estherville think they’ve reached a compromise with the Iowa Department of Transportation over parking on Highway Four, or North Ninth Street.

While the state does not allow parallel parking between the curb and sidewalk, the city does. The city requested the state to relax its requirement as that’s the only source of parking for many of those residents and two businesses that are in the area. Under the compromise, parking will still be allowed between the curb and sidewalk in that area as long as vehicles are atleast seven feet away from the curb and don’t block the sidewalk. The two businesses will be grandfathered in.

City Administrator Steve Woodley says the compromise will be presented to a D-O-T official for consideration. In the event it’s turned down, Woodley says the D-O-T representative will come to a council meeting to discuss the matter further with the city and property owners.
