Events Center Fundraising Gets A Boost

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A fundraising campaign to build a regional events center on the Clay county fairgrounds has received a boost.

A group of advisors yesterday pledged a combined total of more than 150-thousand dollars to the effort. Ron Mills, chairman of the fundraising campaign, hopes the contribution will start the ball rolling with others in the community. The goal is to raise 1.5 million dollars. As of now, Mills says they’ve raised just short of a third of that. Total cost of the events center has been put at 3.8 million. In addition to the 1.5 million in contributions, the group hopes to land another million dollars through the state’s Community Attraction and Tourism Grant Program with another 1.3 million from local option sales tax receipts.

Mills says those who donate a thousand dollars or more will be designated on a donor recognition plaque to be included with the facility.
