Estherville Seeks Public Input For Possible Downtown Rennovation Project

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– The city of Estherville continues to look at ways of beautifying its downtown area, and is looking at Spirit Lake’s Hill Avenue as a possible idea for a theme.

Mayor and Chamber President Lyle Hevern tells KUOO news a team of design professionals from the Iowa Architectural Foundation was in Estherville recently and held a design workshop on possible concepts that could be included with a downtown rennovation. Hevern says several ideas they brought to the table involve the city’s Library and Courthouse Squares, along with most of Central Avenue through the downtown business district. Hevern says the ideas they expressed are based after concepts included in Spirit Lake’s Hill Avenue project–things such as decorative lighting, crosswalks, benches, fountains and other amenities.

Now, Hevern says, they’re looking for public input on some of the ideas. A public meeting will be held for that purpose Wednesday, July 7th at 7:00 p.m. at the Estherville VFW.

Hevern says ideas that will be presented at that meeting are merely initial thoughts and are intended to simply be a place to start a community-wide dialogue.
