Estherville Men Plead To Charges In U-S District Court

(Sioux City)– Two Estherville men have pleaded guilty to various charges in U-S District court in Sioux City.

43-year-old Thomas Jeffrey Koons pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic violence and one count of possession of a firearm while being a user of controlled substances. Thomas Koons faces up to ten years in prison; a fine of up to 250-thousand dollars; a mandatory special assessment of 100-dollars for each count and a term of supervised release of not more than three years when he’s sentenced November 16th.

Another Estherville man, 42-year-old Timothy Koons, was sentenced after having pleaded guilty to one count of possession to distribute a methamphetamine mixture and one count of criminal forfeiture of 3,565-dollars in U-S currency. Timothy Koons was sentenced to 97 months imprisonment and eight years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a one hundred dollar special assessment.

Timothy Koons was arrested in Sioux City after being indicted on October 4th, 2000 by the U-S Marshall’s Service. He was charged in connection with a search warrant executed on his residence in Estherville. It resulted in the seizure of almost 90 grams of a methamphetamine mixture along with the cash and drug records showing over 28 ounces of methamphetamine being distributed within a thousand feet of Mickelson Park in Estherville.
