(Cylinder)– A one-vehicle rollover east of Cylinder early this (Mon.) morning has claimed the life of an Estherville man.
The Iowa State Patrol identifies the victim as 20-year-old Brent Weir.
Authorities say Weir was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Juan Alcala of Estherville. Alcala and two other passengers, 23-year-old Jason Spoo and 18-year-old Tyler Friesner…both of Estherville…received multiple injuries. All three were taken by ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Friesner was transferred by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa in Mason City.
Authorities say Alcala was westbound on Highway 18 a mile east of Cylinder when he lost control. The vehicle left the road and rolled into the south ditch.
Three thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1990 Pontiac Alcala was driving.
The mishap took place around 4:00 a.m.
It remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
