(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council earlier this week approved a proposal paving the way for a manufacturer in the city to expand on some land at 602 South 1st Street. The agreement allows for the construction of a building over a utility easement in that area for a sanitary sewer line, which the city will likely relocate in the future. While it may seem a bit unique, City Administrator Penny Clayton says it isn’t unlike other arrangements the city has made in the past for economic development projects…
“It is entirely standard to make infrastructure improvements related to economic development to increase tax base, to increase jobs or to create jobs, and to retain jobs within the city, so. We’re excited to be able to help this project along by taking care of this particular issue for the company. And we did talk to the company ahead of them deciding to lease, provided them options: building something new in the industrial park, expanding on their current site, and it seemed like their preferred corporate structure, the corporate structure’s preferred method would be to do leases, long term leases, so.”
The new facility will encompass nearly 61,000 square feet on the city’s southwest side.
Clayton says the project will also be eligible for assistance through the city’s Urban Revitalization Plan providing a temporary property tax abatement.
