(Emmetsburg)– Tourism officials from western Iowa will converge next week on the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Western Iowa Tourism Region will hold its annual planning retreat January 30th and 31st.
Renee Jedlicka, a professor of tourism at Iowa Lakes Community College, will facilitate the event. She tells KUOO news they’ll be talking about two issues in particular: promoting Iowa as a safe place to visit following September 11th; and budget cuts from the state. Jedlicka says they’ll be exploring ways local tourism groups can make up for the lost state funding. She’s concerned over the possibility of marketing money being cut back…especially in markets such as Sioux Falls and Omaha which the Iowa Great Lakes draws heavily from.
