Emmetsburg School Levy Vote Set For March 12th

November 23, 2014

(Emmetsburg)– Voters in the Emmetsburg school district head to the polls March 12th to decide the fate of an Educational Support Levy.

Superintendent Paul Tedesco tells KUOO news the district needs an additional 150 to 250-thousand dollars next year to make ends meet. And he says the prospect for more cuts from the state isn’t helping matters.

The Educational Support Levy consists of a mix of income and property tax. Tedesco says the income surtax would be three to five percent and property tax would amount to about 12 dollars a year on a 100-thousand dollar house.

The Emmetsburg School District allowed a previous Educational Support Levy to run out last year.
