Emmet Co. Emergency Management Lands Federal Grant

November 23, 2014

(Estherville)– The Emmet County Emergency Management Agency has received a 27-thousand dollar grant through the U-S Department of Justice.

Emergency Management Coordinator Terry Reekers says it will assist in homeland security. He says the funds have been earmarked to purchase communications equipment, breathing aparatuses for firefighters, protective clothing for law enforcement and E-M-S personnel.

Reekers says competition for the grant was fierce. A year ago when the grant program started only 41 counties applied. This year, it swelled to 90.

Reekers says Emmet county has received 48,500-dollars the last two years by participating in the Department of Justice grant program.
