(Spirit Lake)– An electrical malfunction has been identified as the probable cause of a fire that heavily damaged a house Sunday evening at 708 21st Street in Spirit Lake.
Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says David Schipper of the State Fire Marshall’s Office was on the scene this (Mon.) afternoon and determined the cause was the result of a short in a light switch in the living room.
From there, Jorgenson says it appears the fire spread through a wall and into the rest of the living room. Extensive fire, smoke and water damage was reported to the house.
No one was home at the time. The fire was discovered by a neighbor who called authorities.
