(Estherville)– A local provider of satellite television programming is giving owners of illegal decoder cards an opportunity to turn them in…no questions asked.
Terry Bruns of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative says they’re offering the amnesty program until October 1st. After that, he says they’ll try to track down those who have illegal cards and prosecute them.
Bruns says the penalty can vary depending on the assigned value of the programming that’s been stolen and the type of package they’ve subscribed to. He says most fines would probably range from two thousand to four thousand dollars.
Illegal decoder cards can be dropped off no questions asked at the ILEC’s headquarters in Estherville. They can also be mailed there.
