(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Fire Department spent New Year’s Eve battling a house fire.
Firefighters were called to 24209 178th Street in the Loch Nolls area south of Spirit Lake around 10:45 p.m. Monday. Assistant Fire Chief Joe Jennings Sr. tells KUOO news the fire started in the attic above the kitchen. Jennings says firefighters knocked the ceiling down to get at it. Jennings says the cause is believed to have been an electrical malfunction.
The residence is being rented by Tom Reierson. Jennings says it’s fortunate Reierson was home at the time…or the damage could have been much worse. The way it is, Jennings says there’s quite a bit of damage to the kitchen area with some smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was at the scene until about 12:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
