E-P-C Hearing On Dutch Creek Permit Postponed

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A hearing before the state’s Environmental Protection Commission requested by Dickinson county to contest a permit for Dutch Creek Farms is being postponed.

Assistant Dickinson County Attorney Lonnie Saunders says it will likely be continued to the commission’s next regular meeting date of February 17th.

Saunders says representatives of the two sides agreed to the postponement. He says they want more time to mediate a resolution to the dispute.

David Stein Junior, an attorney representing Citizens Concerned for Dickinson County’s Environment, says he learned of the new development late last week. Stein says talks between the two sides are making slow progress, but he says the fact the channels of communication remain open is encouraging.

Stein says a hearing in Dickinson County District Court on a permanent injunction against the proposed hog lot has been postponed indefinitely. He says an order has also been filed prohibiting Dutch Creek from any further construction until further order of the court.
