(Spencer)– A Spencer man found guilty of first degree murder in the death of his wife has been sentenced to life in prison.
District Judge Frank B. Nelson issued the sentence Monday against 72-year-old Harold Duncan who was convicted by a jury last Friday following a trial in Clay County District Court.
Duncan’s attorney, John Sandy of Spirit Lake, was instructed to file a written appeal within the next 30 days.
Duncan was also ordered to pay 150-thousand dollars in restitution to the estate of Karen “Kay” Duncan, along with court costs and attorney fees.
Duncan will be transferred to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale where he’ll serve the sentence.
