Drug Sweep Lands Three Spencer Men In Jail

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Three Spencer men are in jail on drug and weapons charges as the result of a search warrant authorities executed Tuesday evening on two trailer houses in Spencer.

The searches were conducted at the residences of 25-year-old Joey Doran and 18-year-old Nathan Franklin…both of 317 West 18th Street trailer number 13; and 32-year-old Robert Morfitt of 317 West 18th Street trailer number 28. Officers found quantities of marijuana and multiple pieces of illegal items related to narcotics activities. All three men were taken into custody. They were charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana; a gathering where controlled substances are used or distributed; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Morfitt faces enhanced penalties because authorities say he was lying on a nine millimeter handgun in close proximity to narcotics and paraphernalia when deputies entered his residence.

All three men are being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 19,825-dollars each.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve determined the three suspects are a “substantial, direct link to the supply of illegal narcotics to junior and senior high school students in the Spencer and surrounding area”.

Authorities say their investigation continues and more arrests are possible.

Anyone with any additional information should contact their local law enforcement agency.
