Drug/Child Endangerment Charges Filed Against Spencer Man & Woman

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Drug and child endangerment charges have been filed against a man and woman from Spencer. The man has also been charged with sexual abuse stemming from a separate case.

Spencer police say they executed a search warrant Monday on an apartment at 526 and-a-half Grand Avenue. Authorities say they found drug paraphernalia, precursors used in the manufacture of methamphetamine and a controlled substance believed to be marijuana. An infant was in the apartment at the time of the search. 20-year-old William Dirks and 18-year-old Kristine Soat, who both live in the apartment, were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; possession of precursors with the intent to manufacture, a class “D” felony; and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. Dirks and Soat were both released on their own recognizance.

Authorites say William Dirks was arrested again the following day by Spencer police in an unrelated investigation. Dirks was charged with two counts of delivery of methamphetamine to a minor and one count of third degree sexual abuse. Dirks is accused of supplying methamphetamine to a person under the age of 18 and allegedly engaged in sex acts with a person 15 years of age. Providing methamphetamine to a person under 18 is a felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 99 years per count. Third degree sexual abuse is a class “C” felony.

Dirks is being held in the Clay county jail on no bond for the delivery charge. Bond for the sexual abuse charge was set at 13-thousand dollars.
