(Spirit Lake)– Drug charges have been filed against a Spirit Lake man in connection with a traffic stop early Sunday.
Police say they stopped a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer at the corner of 25th Street and Enterprise Avenue for careless driving shortly before 2:00 a.m.
As a result of the stop, authorities say 45-year-old Peter James Wood of Spirit Lake was charged with operating while intoxicated. Police say they also found a substance believed to be methamphetamine on Wood’s person.
Authorities say a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three packages believed to be methamphetamine; a large quantity of pseudoephedrine, a scale, a recipe for manufacturing methamphetamine, 280-dollars in U-S currency and open containers of alcoholic beverages.
That led to additional charges against Wood, including possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a class “C” felony; possession of precursor substances, a class “C” felony; possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine…a serious misdemeanor; prohibited acts, an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted in its investigation by the Okoboji and Arnolds Park Police Departments.
