Driver Avoids Crash With School Bus

November 23, 2014

(Estherville)– A Ringsted man sustained minor injuries in a single-vehicle crash yesterday (Thurs.) about five to six miles east of Ingham Lake in Emmet county.

The Sheriff’s Office says Franklin Jensen of Ringsted was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus westbound on 210th Street when he came upon an Estherville-Lincoln Central school bus that was stopped on the roadway with its red flashers on and stop arm extended picking up a student. Deputies say Jensen was unable to stop for the bus and to avoid a collision he drove into the north ditch where the vehicle overturned.

Jensen was taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville where he was treated and released.
There were no injuries to any of the students on the bus and no damage was reported to the bus.

Authorities were called to the scene around 7:40 a.m.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Estherville Fire Department’s “Jaws of Life” and the Wallingford First Responders.
