DNR To Expand Spencer Field Offices

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– A major expansion is in the works for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ field offices in Spencer.

Chad Shryock of the Iowa Great Lakes Corridor of Opportunity says the agency has entered into a new lease with the Gateway North Mall for an additional 1,974 square feet, increasing the size of the existing offices by 66 percent. Shryock says the Spencer Industries Foundation is providing a partial rent subsidy on the new space. He says the expanded office space will result in an additional 10 staffers coming into the Spencer office.

The expansion of the Spencer D-N-R office is the result of the agency’s decentralization. Governor Vilsack announced in December 2001 the department would undergo a reorganization, with about a third of the office positions currently in Des Moines being transferred to field offices throughout the state, including the one in Spencer.
