(Ruthven)– Efforts are underway by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to establish a “Bird Conservation Area” in northwest Iowa.
Bruce Ehresman, a biologist with the DNR’s Wildlife Diversity Program, tells KUOO news the conservation area would include portions of Clay, Palo Alto and Emmet counties for a total of 80-thousand acres.
Ehresman says the designation would help in efforts to preserve the populations of certain species of both game and non-game birds.
A public informational meeting on the proposal is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27th at the Lost Island Prairie Wetland Nature Center three miles north of Ruthven.
