DNR Investigates Fish Kill Near Sheldon

November 23, 2014

(Sheldon)– A fish kill near Sheldon is being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

It was reported by some workers who spotted the dead fish along the Floyd River…near a storm sewer outlet downstream from Sheldon.

Officials estimated about 200 fish were killed…most of them chubs.

Barb Lynch, a regional D-N-R Supervisor in Spencer, says high levels of ammonia were detected in that part of the river. She says they’re trying to determine the source of it.

It’s believed the kill took place about two weeks ago.
