DNR Commissioners Hear Boating Complaints

November 23, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Iowa Department of Natural Resources commission members got an earful today at their meeting in the lakes area about boating issues.

Representatives of various protective associations aired concerns over the number of boats, noise, size, speed, and so on.

D-N-R Director Jeff Vonk told KUOO news the concerns did not fall on deaf ears. He promised the agency will look into the various issues that were brought up today. But he said it’s important the commission hear from public interests as well before proposing any administrative or legislative changes.

On another local issue, Dave Murphy of the Spirit Lake Protective Association urged the D-N-R commissioners to keep the rennovation of the lodge at Mini-Wakan state park on schedule for 2004. Murphy says the facility is rapidly deteriorating.
