(Spirit Lake)– A dispute over service territory between the city of Spirit Lake and Clay Regional Water is heating up even more.
KUOO news has obtained a copy of a letter sent to Clay Regional Water customers in Dickinson county. In the letter, the company says it’s halting all construction and expansion projects in Dickinson county because of action by the board of supervisors to detach land recently annexed by the city of Spirit Lake from CRW’s service area. Clay Regional Water claims it has the rights to serve that area; the city differs. Clay Regional Water is suing the city in both state and federal court. They’re also threatening to sue Dickinson county if it doesn’t rescind it’s prevous action.
A letter from the U-S-D-A Rural Development Agency to Clay Regional Water says federal money for projects in Dickinson county is being suspended unless the supervisors reverse their previous action.
The board of supervisors have scheduled a public hearing for February 6th to reconsider the action.
City officials say the letter was meant to intimidate people. CRW officials deny that.
The public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the third floor courtroom of the Dickinson county courthouse.
