(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors voted five-to-nothing today (Tuesday) to uphold a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to rezone two parcels of land just west of Superior from Agricultural to Heavy Industrial to accomodate an ethanol plant being proposed for that location.
A standing room-only crowd was on hand. No one expressed any opposition.
Kathy Showalter made a presentation on behalf of Project Developer Brian Peterson. Showalter said the 50 million gallon dry mill corn processing plant would utilize 18 million bushels of corn a year and produce ethanol distillers grain as a co-product. The plant would employ 30 to 32 people. Showalter said the site is perfect for what they want to do, adding that all the necessary infrastructure is in place.
After some further discussion and comments from the supervisors and public, the board voted five-to-nothing to uphold the P & Z’s rezoning recommendation.
Even though the rezoning has been taken care of, the developer must still obtain a variance and special use permit. The county’s Board of Adjustment will take up those matters at its meeting Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Dickinson County Community Building in Spirit Lake.
