Dickinson Supervisors Reject Bid On Utility Building Project

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Efforts to put up a building that would house radio transmitters for the county’s 911 system and vans for the D-A-V and Engineer’s Office were dealt a serious setback Tuesday.

Only one bid was received for the project at a bid opening during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. It was considerably over the engineer’s estimate. The supervisors rejected the bid, and decided to advertise for bids one more time. A new deadline of June 15th was set to receive bids. The project’s original October 1st completion date will remain the same.

Plans call for the building to be constructed behind the former Baptist church in Spirit Lake, where the county’s radio tower will be relocated to make room for the courthouse project.

The only bid that was submitted for the project came from Midstates Builders of Spencer in the amount of 73,688-dollars. The county’s estimate was 65,600-dollars. Both figures included add-ons for the project. With those figured out, the bid was still 11-thousand dollars over the estimate.
