Dickinson Supervisors Opt Not To Put Basement Under 2nd Phase Of Courthouse

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There will NOT be a basement under the second phase construction of Dickinson county’s new courthouse.

After a lengthy discussion Tuesday that included the architect and general contractor on the project, Supervisor Paul Johnson made a motion to cease with any further efforts for a basement and to proceed with plans as outlined to the public prior to the bond issue referendum.

The motion passed three-to-two with supervisors Wayne Northey and David Gottsche voting no. Northey emphasized the need for the county to be thinking ahead in the long-term.

The cost for including a basement under the second phase of the new courthouse was estimated at slightly more than 756-thousand dollars.
