Dickinson Supervisors Hear Concern Over Possible Ethanol Plant

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The possibility of an ethanol plant locating in eastern Dickinson county was a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting.

While no formal proposal has been made yet to the county, a company has expressed some preliminary interest in building a plant just west of Superior. Mike Walsh lives in that area. He told the supervisors he’s concerned over the potential for noise, traffic, smell and other issues.

But the supervisors say they haven’t heard any formal presentation yet from the company that looking into the possibility of building the plant.

David Kohlhaase, the county’s Planning and Zoning Administrator, says his office has had some preliminary discussion with those that would be involved with the project. He says there would be plenty of opportunity for public comment as the developers of the plant would have to go before the Planning and Zoning Commission for a change to industrial zoning and that they would need a special use permit from the county’s Board of Adjustment.
