(Spirit Lake)– Applications for sewer permits don’t usually draw a lot of discussion at various meetings. But one that came up at Tuesday’s Dickinson county board of supervisors meeting is an exception.
Supervisors were considering a request from Lawrence Zech who owns several lots on the lake side of Francis Sites Drive, or 255th Avenue. Zech was requesting permission from the county to open cut the road to hook onto a sanitary sewer main on the other side of the road. On a motion of two-to-three, the supervisors defeated a motion that would have allowed Zech to do that provided the line is built to specifications and that it’s atleast eight inches in diameter to handle future development in that area. Supervisors Paul Johnson and David Gottsche voted in favor while Mardi Allen, Pam Jordan and Wayne Northey voted no. Allen told fellow board members she believes the Sanitary District should be involved.
Supervisors have been expressing concern over the use of septic tanks in areas along lakes where it’s nearly impossible to connect to the Sanitary District mains due to difficulties in getting easements.
