(Spirit Lake)– The future of a five acre site southwest of Milford that was a source of contention in 2002 was discussed at Tuesday’s Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Dutch Creek Farms, a Fairmont, Minnesota company, purchased the five acres with plans to build a four-thousand head hog operation. It drew so much opposition that a group known as “Save Dickinson County’s Environment” was formed, which bought out the proposed operation and purchased the land jointly with the county. The land has stood idle ever since.
Now, Pheasants Forever wants to establish wildlife habitat on the site. A representative of Pheasants Forever was at Tuesday’s meeting requesting trees and other cover be planted on the land.
It drew concern from supervisors Wayne Northey and Marti Allen. Northey said he’s disappointed previous efforts to meet with representatives of Save Dickinson County’s Environment to discuss the future of that land failed. He said the previous owner wants to buy it back, and they shouldn’t stand in the way of that.
Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche suggested Pheasants Forever meet with representatives of Save Dickinson County’s Environment and its attorney, along with the supervisors, to further discuss the future of the land. That meeting will be held sometime in November.
