Dickinson Supervisors Decide To Proceed On West Sioux Estates TIF Proposal

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday authorized attorneys to begin preparing documents for a proposed Tax Increment Finance District in the West Sioux Estates area southwest of Milford.

Landowners are requesting the TIF, with proceeds to be used to bring a road in that area up to county standards, with the county taking over its jurisdiction once that’s done.

In other business, the supervisors approved a case management contract with Seasons Center at 210-dollars a month per client. The compares with 198-dollars a month per client currently. About 36 Dickinson county residents are served by the program.

They approved a 24,482-dollar changeorder for the courthouse project to correct design flaw on a ridge vent. It brings the total amount of changeorders approved so far to 125-thousand dollars. 680-thousand dollars has been budgeted for changeorders.

The supervisors voted three-to-one to vacate a portion of 237th Avenue on the southeast side of East Lake Okoboji–Supervisor Paul Johnson cast the lone no vote.

They approved a contract to purchase the county’s old phone systems once they’re taken out of operation. Under the proposal, Heartland Technologies will pay the county 10,727-dollars for the old equipment.

They also approved increasing compensation for the three members of the county’s Commission of Veteran’s Affairs from $25 a month currently to $50. The Iowa Legisature passed a bill in the last session that lifted the 25-dollar cap.
