(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday voted unanimously to enter into a settlement with MCI on some back taxes the bankrupt company owes on land it owns in Dickinson county.
A bankruptcy judge awarded 20-thousand dollars, which wasn’t enough to cover the entire amount owed. But Treasurer Linda Voss said it probably wouldn’t be worth the legal fees trying to recoup the rest.
The supervisors also Tuesday approved plans and specifications for the utility building to be constructed behind the former Baptist Church at 19th Street and Ithaca Avenue. The action followed a public hearing that drew no opposition. Bids on the project will be opened June 1st. The county’s new 9-1-1 communications tower will be constructed next to that building in a separate project.
Supervisors also heard a report on more repairs needed at the county-owned Oak Haven Care Facility. The building’s roof, doors and windows were recently replaced. Now it was reported water damage that was incurred prior to the roof being replaced needs to be fixed in places like the kitchen and laundry room. The cost was put at between 13-thousand and 15-thousand dollars.
The matter will be brought back at next week’s meeting at which time they hope to have a more exact estimate on the cost.
