(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a proposal to transfer the county’s share of jurisdiction of old Highway 71 in the Maywood area to the city of West Okoboji. Under the deal, the county will pay the city 46,570-dollars…the amount of money the county would get from the state the next 10 years for its share of jurisdiction. The city wants to resurface the road.
The supervisors deferred action to their next meeting June 21st on a request from the Dickinson County Emergency Medical Services to put five defibrillators in the new courthouse at a total cost of 13,390-dollars. However, EMS President Steve Hopkins told the supervisors the cost would be much less thanks to a grant the could be obtained. But one supervisor, Paul Johnson, said he wants a written opinion from Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders concerning any liability issues.
The supervisors also voted four-to-one to purchase half of a lot owned by Milford Municipal Utilities near the elevator in Milford for 40-thousand dollars. Paul Johnson cast the no vote. The lot would be used eventually to either expand the existing county maintenance shed in Milford or build a new one.
The supervisors also opened bids on a telephone system for the new courthouse. Proposals were submitted by two firms. Both came in well below the amount of money that’s been budgeted for the equipment. The supervisors deferred action on the bids to their next meeting to give a committee time to review them.
