Dickinson Supervisors Approve Courthouse Changeorders

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved more than 81-thousand dollars in changeorders for the courthouse project. One package totaling more than nine thousand dollars includes additional money to relocate a dumpster and some bollards and to replace sod around the perimeter of the new building with decorative rock to keep dirt from splashing onto the building when it rains. Another package, totalling more than 11-thousand dollars, is to modify a column in a staircase on the west side of the building and to install a downflush drain and isolated sprinkler system in the jail area. The final package, totalling more than nine thousand, is to re-route duct work around some walls and upgrade outlets and data receptacles. The grand total of the changeorders on the project so far is slightly more than 81-thousand dollars.

In other business, the supervisors opened bids on a project to remove asbestos from the old courthouse and County Attorney’s Office prior to the buildings being torn down. Contractors bid on the projects separately. The supervisors took no action on the bids Tuesday, pending an opinion from Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders as to whether or not they would be able to award the bids separately.

They awarded the low bid of 281,415-dollars from Kruse Paving of Lakefield for the re-surfacing and widening of County Home Road. The bid is considerably higher than the engineer’s estimate of 219,394-dollars. County Engineer Dan Eckert attributes it to the extremely high price of petroleum products. The project will be done this fall.

The supervisors also Tuesday approved a low bid of 109,803-dollars from Midwest Contracting of Marshall, Minnesota for a culvert replacement project.
