(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Thursday voted three to two to hire a part-time assistant in the County Attorney’s Office for a six-month period beginning January 1st at a cost of 24-thousand dollars. Supervisors Paul Johnson, Mardi Allen and Pam Jordan voted in favor; chairman David Gottshe and Wayne Northey voted no.
The motion to hire a part-time assistant for a half-year followed an earlier one by Northey to deny Rosalise Olsen’s request altogether. Northey told Olsen he had nothing personal againt Olsen or her staff in making the motion.
Olsen pleaded with the supervisors not to deny her request. The motion to deny was voted down two to three, with Northey and Gottsche in favor and Johnson, Allen and Jordan opposed.
Olsen was hoping to get an assistant for atleast a full-year at 48-thousand dollars. Approval of the request for the six months at 24-thousand dollars met her request half-way.
A stipulation was tacked on directing Olsen to provide the supervisos with periodic reports on how things are going in the office, with a full summary comparing the number of closed cases from January 1st to the end of June…during the time the additional assistant will be working.
