(Spirit Lake)– Very cautious and conservative. That’s how supervisors describe Dickinson county’s 2005 fiscal year budget.
The supervisors adopted the budget Monday following a public hearing.
It reflects a five cent increase per thousand dollars valuation for the General Fund…which will increase from $2.98 to $3.03 per thousand. The Rural Services Fund will increase a dime per thousand dollars valuation…going from $1.67 to $1.77 per thousand. And the Mental Health portion of the county’s levy will increase a penny…going from 35 cents currently to 36 cents per thousand dollars valuation.
The supervisors voted three-to-one to adopt the budget. Supervisor Wayne Northey cast the lone no vote, saying it was unfair that some departments had their budgets cut by as much as 10 percent while others actually had increases. Supervisor Mardi Allen defended the process the supervisors used in putting the budget together, saying they had a lot of very difficult decisions to make.
Supervisor Paul Johnson was attending another meeting and was absent for the budget vote.
